Opening Event – The Biennale Of Sydney – Thursday 28 June 2012

Ruth Hirst from Created Events won the contract to put together the gala opening event for The Biennale Of Sydney, which was held in the very unique Turbine Hall at historic Cockatoo Island. Many months of preparation and planning was invested into what turned out to be a very successful opening event.

The Biennale of Sydney presents Australia's largest and most exciting contemporary visual arts event. Held every two years, the Biennale presents a three-month exhibition, plus a program of artist talks, performances, forums, film screenings, family events, guided tours and other special events.

Ruth turned to Colin Baldwin at Event Services to plan and design the production elements for the opening event. The venue is very challenging commented Colin..."there are many hazards within the hall and rigging from the very high roof trusses must be carefully designed to fit within strict weight guidelines". Colin engaged Malcolm Hill (licensed rigger) who took control of the overall rigging task. Once the bump-in was completed, certifying engineers thoroughly examined the installation before signing-off, only hours before guests arrived.

In all there were 24 chain hoists attached to the roofing trusses, which supported the lighting and themed set. Robe Robin 300 LED washlights and Colorspot 575 spots, plus 80 odd theatrical fixtures we deployed to light the various food stations, bars, seating areas and dance floor throughout the massive hall. Adele Winteridge designed the themed setting and volunteer arts students assisted her. Colin's lighting design was programmed and operated by Daryl Bowen. Justin Baraclough operated the audio system. Patrick Williams took on the role of crew boss. Chameleon and Strauss Productions supplied additional lighting equipment.

The Event Services team included...Mitch Colton & Robin Lamb who managed large volumes of show content, which was switched between the main auditorium, foyer and feeds between ABC tv and back. Colin Baldwin acted as TD, lighting and stage set designer with Richard Neville as LD assisted by lighting crew Patrick Williams, Paul Sinclair & Daryl Bowen.

Tamworth Country Music Festival 2012

Event Services in association with Norwest Productions won the tender to provide full-production for the 40th Country Music Awards held in Tamworth on 28th January 2012.  This included lighting, stage set, audio, live vision and crewing at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Centre.  This was the first year both 'Country Theatre' , which runs the week leading up to the awards and the Country Music Awards were held on the same stage.  Two designs were called for, one for intimate mode in theatre style and one in full-lyric mode for the awards.

Colin Baldwin was appointed production designer / manager and came up with a dual purpose rig that could accommodate mode intimate and lyric modes with minimal turn-around.  The awards lighting rig, supplied by Chameleon was fully dressed in drapes supplied by George Aviat Staging and turned into a box theatre.  This gave the appearance of an intimate theatre complete with tab-track downstage.  Early Friday morning 27th January, the drapes were removed, then Martin LC panels and Robe Robin 300's moving lights were rigged across the back of the stage so that the rig was set for the awards.

Event Services provided the live vision consisting of 4-camera shoot and play-back of nominees packages onto several large monitors and 4 projection screens. Audio legend Ernie Rose produced a great mix at FOH for Norwest Productions, which was managed by Ray Moss and his team from Brisbane.  Richard Neville programmed and operated the lights, which many commented 'was the best show seen in years'.

Event Services is proud to announce new additions to our equipment inventory.
